Gadsden Library Events for September October

By live
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Introducing our new Lunch & Learn program … a series of Tuesday
noontime programs all designed to highlight the decade of the 1950′s.  We
are calling our series “Go Ape for the 50′s”.  The program will run each
Tuesday during September and October beginning at 12 Noon and lasting
approximately one hour.  People can bring their brown bag lunches, learn
about and discuss the good, ol’ days and the library will provide sweet
tea and dessert.

The Bookmobile is an impressive 74′ long semi-truck (painted
by Disney) that has been traveling the USA and visiting libraries all
around the country (mostly in major cities).  We are fortunate to be on
their schedule this year and the Bookmobile will arrive at the Gadsden
Public Library on Friday, October 22nd.  Hours will run from 10:00 AM to
4:00 PM that day.  The Bookmobile will help educate our patrons about the
ease of downloading free digital audiobooks, eBooks and music directly
onto their hand-held devices.  Just like checking out a book from the
library, our patrons can now download books offered by our library
directly to their devices without leaving home!  The Digitial Bookmobile
will help us promote this great service using instructional videos,
interactive computer stations on-board the truck and learn new ways to
enjoy books and other materials.

For more info, call the Gadsden Public Library at 256-549-4699

450 Mile Yard Sale Starts August 6 in Gadsden

By live · Comments (0)
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Hey yardsale junkies, your annual fix is around the corner. The 450 mile yard sale starts in 2 days and it begins in Gadsden, Alabama.

It starts at Noccalula Falls, and travels up through Fort Payne, Tennessee and Kentucky. Good luck with getting that far.

Here is a great tip for traveling the yardsale:

From Gadsden, take I-59 north to exit 218 in Fort Payne, then drive through town on HWY 35 and jump on the route, heading south toward Gadsden. As you go down the route, only stop at a minimum of 5-household yardsales. You get more looks for your stop. By the time you get to the intersection of highway 68, if you are tired, you can turn toward Leesburg and head home on highway 411. You can also start your trip by taking 411 to Leesburg and cut across to the route and head back home from there.

The good thing about this strategy is you are going toward Gadsden as your day progresses and you have the better flow of traffic.

Here is a map of the Fort Payne staring point:
